Clever and Creative Graffiti
If you’ve ever lived in a city, or even just passed through one, you’ve probably noticed at least some graffiti.
The kind you usually see around are crudely done with cans of spray paint, or else they’re giant murals that the city has commissioned artists to do themselves.
But once in a while, you see a small bit of unobtrusive vandalism that’s actually pretty creative and clever!
You have to be pretty lucky to come across them, as they’re not super common. But lucky for you, we’ve compiled some of the funniest and most creative ones in this article!
Now you too can enjoy the crafty cleverness of these bits of graffiti!
48. Everyone’s a Critic
Maybe this person was tired of all the billboards in their neighborhood. Or maybe they just prefer Burger King or Carl’s Jr for their fast food fix.
McDonald’s put up this poster to let people know about what they consider their delicious breakfast options.
reddit by u/Gyr0Zepp3li
But this person was not having it, not this fateful morning! They grabbed their can of black spray paint, which I guess they just had lying around for some reason, and they let McDonald’s know just what they thought of their precious breakfast sandwiches.
People of the neighborhood need to know there are better breakfast options out there!
47. When Vandalism is Productive
It looks like this person found a way to turn graffiti into something productive for their neighborhood.
Clearly this mailbox was in dire need of a paint job. I mean, it looks like it hadn’t been painted for years and years.
So how did they draw the city’s attention to it?
reddit by u/masked_gamer21
By graffiting it, of course! Maybe the city is willing to tolerate a faded mailbox, but graffiti is something that they are not going to stand for.
Looks like they gave that mailbox a brand new coat, good job guys!
46. How to Put Out a Fire
These kinds of signs are meant to let people know that the elevator is not a safe option in case of a fire.
But the way the sentence is phrased, well, it might sound like it’s implying a strange solution to put out fires.
Or at least, you might think that if you’re a smart aleck.
reddit by u/Whatintarnation7
Clearly someone in this building had a clever brain and a pen to write with. I’m sure all the people who pass by this sign have a good chuckle or roll their eyes.
Either way, he’s captured the public’s attention!
45. Some Humor When Taking a Test
I don’t know about you, but whenever I would see these little fields at the top of a paper I would just ignore them.
I mean, unless you’re taking a standardized test, you usually just need to scribble your name at the top of the page.
But one person clearly noticed them and decided to do something creative with them.
reddit by u/Mohanselvaraj16
These two little stick figures look pretty funny at the top of the page. Only a truly creative mind would be able to come up with a concept like this, and I think it’s brilliant!
44. The Field of the White Striped Cows
What are the chances that there would be five cows with the exact same stripe in the exact same spot?
Clearly someone caught onto this and decided to slightly alter the sign to reflect the animals that roam around it.
reddit by u/solid_salad
Where on Earth is this where there are just cows roaming around? If anyone has spotted a place like this in their neighborhood you’ve got to let me know, I want to move to the place that has these cool squads of striped cows.
There’s just something that looks pretty magical about it, plus I’d like to meet the person who fixed that sign!
43. Getting into the Holiday Spirit
Okay, it’s basically impossible to look at this sign and not get the song stuck in your head.
Having trouble figuring it out? Think of one of the catchiest Christmas jingles that you know, and then read the sign again.
Now you’ve got it!
reddit by u/plsiwanttosleep
It must’ve been the holiday season when this sign was altered by a mysterious vandal. And I mean, can you really be upset about this?
Isn’t this basically just another kind of Christmas decoration? I mean, just so long as it’s wintertime, otherwise I guess you COULD count this as vandalism.
42. The Coolest Real Estate Agent in Town
Looks like Alan Stilwell is a real estate agent with style and a sense of humor!
He’s not going to let a bit of petty vandalism get to him, no sir. He’s totally adaptable, which is a pretty good trait for a real estate agent I guess?
reddit by u/polojet
With all the different real estate ads you see everywhere, Alan really seems to have figured out how to make himself stand out.
Perhaps this vandalism was all a big publicity stunt to launch himself into the public eye?? I smell a conspiracy theory.
41. The Ultimate Public Bathroom Prank
At first glance, the sticker on this paper towel dispenser looks pretty legitimate.
But then once you take a second look something seems off. I mean, when’s the last time you saw a paper towel dispenser that was voice activated?
reddit by u/Cyborg_Huey
I really wonder how many people fell for this prank. It must’ve been pretty funny to hide away in one of the stalls and wait for people to start yelling to get a paper towel to come out.
Maybe one or two smart people figured out it was a prank, but I’m willing to bet there were a lot of people shouting in that bathroom.
40. There’s an Artist on the Loose!
There’s an amateur artist going around the neighborhood, giving the stop signs a little more flair! Perhaps the sign is suggesting that all motorists stop for a break at a bar, instead of merely stopping at the end of the street.
This would’ve been a safety hazard if the sign were completely covered, but a little doodle doesn’t seem to impede its purpose.
reddit by u/envysquirrel
Honestly, if there is a bar anywhere near this street then this could be a pretty clever and subtle form of advertising.
Think about it, you pull up to the curb and stop, your eye catches this sign and you think “I could really go for a margarita right about now!”
39. Being Very Honest About Your Sanitizer Opinions
A hand sanitizer dispenser is a pretty welcome addition to any office, or really any place that involves a lot of people getting their grubby hands over everything.
The only issue working in a corporate setting are those little safety hazards, and paper cuts are definitely one of them!
reddit by u/kellmac10
If you ever got a paper cut without realizing it, rubbing a dollop of this stuff into your skin will help you find it right away!
A very unwelcome and unpleasant surprise when all you wanted to do was clean your dirty hands.
38. McDonald’s Endorsing Cannibalism??
It seems that people take particular pleasure in vandalizing McDonald’s ads, perhaps that’s because the restaurant is such a giant that it’s fun to be able to poke fun at them.
In this particular situation, someone took the suggestion of buying a friend lunch and turned it into having your friend AS lunch.
reddit by u/swoopwoopdoop
I seriously doubt that McDonald’s would endorse such a cannibalistic message, but that’s what makes this mild vandalism so funny in the first place.
But here’s the real question, do they serve fava beans and a nice chianti alongside your friends?
37. Everything is Copyrighted these Days…
If you’ve ever seen a photo on the internet you’re probably familiar with Getty Images. This supplier of stock photos can be found on every corner of the web, with millions of photos being credited to their name.
Sometimes it can feel like Getty Images own every visual thing in existence!
reddit by u/Wiildman8
Maybe that was the message that this person was trying to get across when they tagged this wall in the woods.
No photos without giving proper credit! The scene you’re looking at is now a copyrighted material, so you better get the rights before looking!
36. When You’ve Got Queen Stuck in Your Head
Here’s another funny and creative way someone altered a stop sign. Of course, any sign that has words on it opens the door to a multitude of mild vandalism possibilities.
Apparently whoever was passing by this sign had the iconic Queen song on their brain, and decided to share it with all other pedestrians.
reddit by u/AKcenty
Of course, there are many different options for a sign like this. They could have also gone with “STOP…in the name of love” or “STOP…wait a minute, fill my cup put some liquor in it”.
Okay maybe that last one was a little too long but you get the message.
35. The Weirdest Harry Potter Book Title
Any of you in academia can probably relate to this guy’s conundrum. And all of us who are NOT into reading scientific papers will most likely be relating more to his wife! I mean “The influence of climatic legacies on the distribution…” blah blah blah.
Definitely sounds like it could be some kind of long winded Harry Potter book title.
reddit by u/Bmchris44
Granted, this would be a pretty bizarre Harry Potter book if THAT was the title.
Perhaps it would be the kind of book that is educational but disguises itself as entertainment.
34. Breaking the Rules with Artistic Talent
Now, this has definitely got to be the most harmless and also the most clever mild vandalism on this list.
Not only that, but the person who committed this “crime” is pretty talented at origami.
Of course, the instructions on the table apply to the table itself, not the activities going on around it.
reddit by u/Solbury
I’m sure that whoever discovered this had a pretty good laugh, perhaps they even took one of these paper swans with them as a keepsake.
I know that’s exactly what I would do if I were in this person’s place.
33. Bill Posters is an Innocent Man!
Okay so someone in this city definitely wanted to be a smart alek, and you know what? He succeeded in making me snort with laughter.
Of course “bill posters” refer to the people who tape up flyers and advertisements on otherwise clear building walls.
But after reading the second note, the message changes just a bit.
reddit by u/Uehwiahalaguckslapjs
Bill Posters, whoever he may be, should not have his good name slandered on this plaque!
Whatever it is he’s being accused of I am confident of his innocence. I mean, the note up there just seems too convincing.
32. The Cutest Water Tank for Miles Around
Everyone wants to inject a bit of whimsy into their lives, and their neighborhood apparently. But maybe not everyone is on board with this kind of decoration on their water tank.
Nevertheless, this water tank tagging artist will not be deterred! No matter how many times their work is painted over they will persevere.
reddit by u/coloradostaterams
And who can blame them? That little piggy face just makes that water tank look so much cuter!
A little face like that would make me name that water tank. I will call him Phil, and we will be the best of friends.
31. Passive Aggressive Pantry Items
This bag of sugar was simply labeled in order to let people know it was two things: fine and granulated. One person must have been passing it by in the grocery store and thought that it could be read as a passive aggressive way.
So they gave the bag a couple edits and viola!
reddit by u/WTFSUDE
Now the bag read “Fine, granulated sugar.” complete with little eye roll face to really get the message across. If I saw this in the grocery aisle I would definitely start laughing very loudly.
Bless this person who decided to spread such joy.
30. Get Off Your Lazy Butt, John!
Looks like someone on this construction site is pretty disgruntled with their co-worker John.
John is probably one of those coworkers who take five different coffee breaks and goes for lunch at least twice, and whenever you ask for his help with something he suddenly needs to use the restroom.
reddit by u/Plasma_CAN
But now John is getting called out! Maybe now he will learn his lesson.
Or….someone unrelated to this sign just wanted to make a funny joke, honestly, either one is a possibility. But that doesn’t make this mild vandalism any less funny.
29. A Poor Man’s Topiary
You could look at this and almost consider it budget topiary, y’know when hedges are clipped into different animal shapes?
That kind of thing is usually pretty expensive and time consuming, so why not just settle for drawing Marge Simpson’s face underneath a tall plant?
reddit by u/JamuelSackson420
Not only does it save you time and money, but it’s probably also a whole lot more recognizable. I’m also willing to bet that anyone passing this by will probably end up with a smile on their face.
And isn’t that what this mild vandalism is all about?
28. Seeing Faces in Everything
Have you ever stared at an inanimate object and started to notice facial features? This is a common thing that almost all human beings do, but not all of us are bold enough to create something like this!
You have to admit it’s a pretty creative way to redesign that air dryer.
reddit by u/mistermajik2000
It would be hard not to crack a smile while drying your hands with this thing. Then again, I usually opt for using the paper towels.
At least it’s one way to brighten up a public restroom and add some whimsy to your day.
27. The googly Eyed Vandal
Looks like there is an office prankster on the loose. Can you imagine how many googly eyes he must’ve stuck all over the place before this sign was put up? I mean, this kind of public posting doesn’t just happen after one or two pairs of googly eyes go up.
This kind of thing only happens after at LEAST 4-5 incidents.
reddit by u/PicturesOfNova
And the vandal clearly is not done with their inconsequential crime.
Even on this flyer that chastises his actions, they are determined to make their mark. I for one salute their brave and hilarious actions.
26. Only the True Meme Scholars Will Get It
Only those informed on this classic meme will understand the stroke of brilliance this mild form of vandalism is.
And if you aren’t familiar with the meme you still have to admit that this would be a pretty funny sight to stumble across in the Apple store.
reddit by u/The-Lazy-Lemur
I’m only just SLIGHTLY distracted by the fact that a new iPhone costs over $1,000. Those things just keep getting more and more expensive.
Maybe the meme is a way to take your mind off that kind of sticker shock. That would definitely be one interesting marketing tactic!
25. IS Everyday Really a Good Day for Chicken?
Okay admit it, this one made you snort, it CAN’T just be me.
I’m sure that the head of marketing at Kentucky Fried Chicken thought that this was a clever slogan, one that would get people in the mood to munch on crispy chicken every day of the week.
reddit by u/nvanw27
Unfortunately for them, someone seemed to notice a flaw in this message. I mean, there is definitely some truth in their claim.
I don’t think the chicken whose leg is sitting in that bucket was having a particularly good day, but that’s just a hunch.
24. Bringing Europe to Your Neighborhood
If you can’t manage to make it to Italy, perhaps you can bring a little piece of Italy to your neighborhood!
Looks like someone who lives around here is a die hard fan of traveling, how nice of them to bring a much, much smaller version of the leaning tower of Pisa to their city.
reddit by u/JimFancyPants
That or they wanted to draw attention to the fact that this bollard is crooked.
That is one way to get the attention of the city council, and in a pretty funny and clever way as well!
23. What Else Would You Be Watching For?
I guess this person saw this sign and thought to themselves, “Why would I want to watch cars!”. And you know what? He has a point!
There are cars all over the road, why would I want to stand in this parking lot and watch them?
Oh wait, maybe the sign means to WATCH OUT for cars…?
reddit by u/Cognosyeti
That would certainly make a lot more sense. I guess the comment here was meant to be sarcastic, but how cool would it be if there was actually a spontaneous show in the parking lot??
22. No Pie? No Way!
Everyone is familiar with the “no smoking” symbol. You see it all over the place, in buildings, elevators, and even in airplanes.
But did you ever take a closer look and think that with one simple line the logo COULD look like a slice of pie?
Well, this person certainly did!
reddit by u/lllooolllp
Now smoking is perfectly permissible in this area, but pie is NOT! I’m not sure if I’m a big fan of that idea, but then again I don’t smoke and I LOVE pie. I definitely would not respect that no pie sign.
I think pie should be allowed everywhere.
21. Just a Few Small Amendments to the Park Rules
I have a feeling that the person who made the edits to this sign was getting pretty tired of all the rules of this park.
Hopefully, the people who read this sign understand that the rules have NOT been changed by an official source!
reddit by u/prod-longboi
Otherwise, they might be in for a rude awakening if they try to drink, smoke, or set off fireworks!
Maybe the person who made these amendments to the park rules should open up their own park, and then they can decide on whatever regulations they see fit.
20. Some Carb-tastic, Gluten Filled Vandalism
Now, this has got to be the most interesting form of vandalism. It involves no spray paint and no marker pens, only 9 slices of white bread.
I bet you that the birds in this neighborhood were very pleased to discover this, it was probably like a giant buffet to them!
reddit by u/cheesey_boyz
My only question is how they got the slices of bread to stay up on the tree that way. Did they use tape? Or maybe it was glue?
I guess if they really wanted that bread to stay up they’d use a hammer and nails!
19. A Magical Frog Dispensing Crosswalk
Most crosswalks have buttons that simply make the light change a bit faster for pedestrian crossing.
But this crosswalk is no ordinary crosswalk! Apparently, if you push the button here it dispenses a frog.
That’s got a pretty whimsical street.
reddit by u/that_guy109
Where do all the frogs come from? Is there a pond nearby or do the frogs simply appear out of thin air?
Is this the work of a magician or another mystical force? Someone who lives on this road please let me know! I want to discover the secrets of the frog crosswalk
18. Stubbornness that Knows No Bounds
Who knows if the person who added the comment to this sign was a natural vandal, or if he was just spurred into action by the sign’s message that he simply HAD to say something.
Well, for whatever reason, I think that this cheeky response is pretty clever.
reddit by u/jtbabcock
Then again, the sign looks like it may be promoting awareness for something more serious. But what is life if we can’t laugh a bit at serious topics?
This graffiti has us doing just that. Let’s just hope that this person was actually able to live up to his stubborn reputation!
17. Those Snakes are Catching Up
The design on this wet floor sign was meant to illustrate a person slipping on waves of water, I guess.
But what does the creative eye see instead? Three snakes chasing after a man, and one of them succeeding to catch him!
reddit by u/musicman827
Naturally, anyone who noticed this hilarious reinterpretation of the sign just HAD to share it. It’s pretty cool of them to leave it as a taped up note instead of writing directly on the sign.
Now the sanitation worker who uses it can get a good laugh out of the joke and not have to replace their equipment.
16. Making Ancient History More Metal
Looks like someone was feeling particularly bored in the middle of history class. As a result, I assume they wanted to add a little something something to spice up the illustrations, and I definitely think that they succeeded!
Now instead of a boring old caveman, you’ve got a proper heavy metal band!
reddit by u/bbennett108
I think history would be a lot more exciting if it featured more electric guitars, don’t you agree?
It probably would make for a lot of very weird fossils though, archaeological museums would definitely be a very different place.
15. Double Graffitis are Super Rare
Now, this is a pretty rare case that you don’t get to see very often.
It seems like one person stuck their message onto this stop sign, but then another person came along to add a second message to THAT!
reddit by u/TheRiddler007
The meaning of the original sign has been completely lost at this point. First, it was just a mere stop sign, then it became a sign to advocate for not eating animals.
And now? Well, it’s just trying to promote the consumption of gravy. Who knows what the next addition will be!
14. What Direction to the Bean Dip?
Normally traffic signs are meant to let you know whether roads are curved, forked, or have a dip in them.
But it looks like this handy little sign is directing motorists towards some delicious South American food!
Let it be known that if I was on the road and noticed this sign, I’d be turning right as soon as possible!
reddit by u/toomuchpressure17
I wonder what other types of signs you could put up on the highway.
Maybe “turn left for salsa” or “make a u-turn if you’re feeling like fettuccine alfredo”.
I think those kinds of traffic signs would be a lot more exciting!
13. The Sad Tale of One Dr. Hedgeh
I can only imagine how many times this poor man has had his last name likened to a woodland creature.
Dr. Hedgeh just wants to live his life in peace, but people can’t seem to resist making changes to the end of his name.
Granted, those changes are pretty hilarious.
reddit by u/jimkaxon1
But I don’t think Dr. Hegheh is particularly amused by this mild vandalism to his name around the office.
Another person may consider changing their name if this teasing got out of hand, but I have a feeling Dr. Hedgeh is not one who will bend too easily!
12. We Finally Found Him!
We’ve found him! Or rather, we’ve found the street he probably lives on.
Honestly, who could have resisted painting this street sign pole with the iconic Waldo colors?
I mean, Waldo street should be able to represent Waldo as much as possible.
reddit by u/dshaps10
This is the kind of thing that definitely will put a smile on any perceptive pedestrians who happen to be walking by.
The only thing that would make this street more interesting would be if someone were to dress up as Waldo and lurk around the neighborhood.
11. Taking These Traffic Signs Super Literally
Sometimes you see the same street signs over and over that your brain begins to think of creative interpretations.
So if you drive by the sign “AHEAD” every day, after a while you might start to see it as “A HEAD”.
And what would be funnier than a mannequin head taped above it?
reddit by u/tentional
Now everyone who drives by is only going to be able to read that sign as “A HEAD”.
I sure hope that there was nothing especially important that this sign was supposed to be indicating, then it might not be such a good thing.
10. An Unexpected Homer Simpson
This is one of those little alterations to everyday things that you have to take a closer look at in order to notice.
But catching one of these things in your day to day can be very exciting, not to mention funny.
What could be better at putting a smile on your face than a wide eyed Homer Simpson?
reddit by u/JimFancyPants
Even if you don’t remember the exact episode that this moment was from, it’s a funny image all on its own.
And it’s even more giggle-worthy when you spot it in a place like a traffic light.
9. The Most Rock n Roll City Ever
Looks like there are some hardcore punk rockers that live in this neighborhood! All it takes is a little bit of black tape and some imagination to turn a regular stoplight hand into the symbol for rock n roll.
If you were crossing the street at night and saw this you probably wouldn’t be able to help but smile.
reddit by u/KaiiTK
This would be a nice addition to a town that’s known for its rock n roll scene. Or it would be an ironic addition to a town that was known for hating the rock scene!
8. Someone’s Making a Statement
Looks like someone who was waiting at this bus stop had a particular attitude towards McDonald’s, and it sure wasn’t a positive one!
I can’t say I necessarily blame them, I mean we’re all pretty aware that Mcdonalds is not good for you by any means.
reddit by u/afloodbehind
Maybe this little addition to the advertisement will have passerbys reconsider where they’re getting their next meal.
A pretty clever way to counter an ad that you feel very strongly against, simple but still very effective.
I wonder how this person would vandalize other companies’ ads.
7. A Wild Mr. Bean Appears
The story behind this amazing mild vandalism goes as follows; there was a group of boys putting up pictures of Mr Bean all over their school, in all kinds of random places.
Obviously school staff noticed the photos and had them all taken down. Or at least, so they thought.
reddit by u/waterfriendiam
This lone photo of Mr Bean with his goofy smile managed to fly under their radar. It sat atop the school speakers, not exactly in plain view, and there it remained.
Any students who would be able to spot it probably had a moment of silence to recognize this epic prank.
6. I’m Suddenly in the Mood to Hit the Arcade
Looks like there was definitely an old school video game fanatic around here. When their eye bought the design on this manhole they were unable to resist decorating it with the character of their favorite video game.
This would probably be a great way to advertise the opening of a new arcade.
reddit by u/hamoxi4354
But most likely it was done by someone who just thought it would look cool.
Hopefully there is some kind of arcade nearby, because people who catch a glimpse of this cool design are probably going to want to play Pac Man right away!
5. When You Have a Colorful Imagination
Some people simply have more creative minds that are able to see interesting images in everyday objects. Thankfully this person decided to share their creativity with everyone.
Once you imagine this little coat hanger as a drunk Octopus with its fists balled up that’s all you’ll ever be able to see.
reddit by u/KookiesNKreanm
And do you know what would make this image a thousand times better? A nice pair of googly eyes on top of this drunk octopus, that would make him especially inebriated.
And of course googly eyes make everything look a thousand times more hilarious.
4. Er, WHAT Does this Spread Taste Like??
Now it’s not totally clear whether someone coincidentally placed the price sticker in that spot, or if someone did it on purpose.
But either way, it sure makes for a funny thing to catch in the dairy aisle!
Perhaps someone went around and moved the price stickers around on all these containers, that would be a pretty amazing (and still harmless) joke.
reddit by u/ihaveabaguetteknife
Let’s just hope that this non butter spread does NOT actually taste like butt.
I don’t think a product like that would sell very well, even if it didn’t contain any cholesterol.
3. Following Directions to a T
Now this is some vandalism that is at least following the rules! If you think about it, the sign is only instructing people not to write on the ROCK, it doesn’t say anything about penning a message on the sign itself.
That’s definitely one way to be rebellious while still following the rules.
reddit by u/Chezchase3
It’s signs that this seems to be practically begging for a wise guy to come along with a marker pen and leave a message like this.
And we’re all glad that they do, because they are super amusing to come across.
2. Marge Simpson in Places You Don’t Expect
Apparently there are many inanimate objects that resemble the hair of Marge Simpson.
And when people take notice of it they just can’t help but doodle her face to complete the picture. And this person did a pretty good job of it!
reddit by u/likemyfacehurtsscoob
I gotta admit though, if there was any way to make a mop with a bucket more interesting it’s definitely this.
Mopping a floor is definitely not an especially enjoyable activity, so I think we can all agree that this kind of vandalism would probably brighten up another person’s day.
1. Whose Church is This?
Who knew that removing one simple letter from the name of this church would bring up so many questions.
Whose church is this now? It sure ain’t Peter’s church!
Who knows if the S fell off by natural causes or if someone swiped it.
reddit by u/LuanGaff
Whatever the reason for the missing S may be, I think someone needs to put it backup ASAP so we can all be clear on the person this church is named for!
Or maybe this is the perfect opportunity to name the church after someone else!
